We have made a working prototype, see the wiki and yutube videos for more info.
Right now we are looking into getting a turnkey system. http://yellowheat.com/catalog has a complete turnkey for $2500 or just the burner for $1500.
We are also looking for people to help open source a babington burner design.

Hey there, I had an idea while waling to work about a babington burner inside a container of water - Basicly a steam reactor type thing i guess.A kind of self contained burner/Boilier unti that would be relativly easy to move from one place to another.
I wasnt too sure if this has been done before or if it would even be useful for you. Ive started to Modle it in blender.
Sounds cool! Please keep us posted!
I was trying to come up with a portable biling water source. It helps kill weeds, and seeds of ready to plant soil.
Question:
The turnkey system is offered as a space heater. can it be used as a high pressure boiler or glass/metal furnace? The thermodynamic requirements of the two are very different.
I wasn't sure if oil could even be used to work glass or metal, but before accusing y'all i did some research.

this site convinced me an oil burner is the way to go. looks like he boot straps his setup, using previous versions to cast blowers and parts for future generations. eh?

From the very little research we did it looked like a babington might be able to reach temperatures needed do some metal work.
