What got me here

For as long as I can remember I have dreamed of living in a simple cabin in the woods.  The only thing is I always knew I would get kindof lonely.  I like using my brain and interacting with others.  I just don't like the public, or mass groups.  I don't believe in big cities and lots of concrete.  God gave us the garden of eden and we plowed it down and built a highway on it.

I'm 22, Live in New Zealand and work for an ISP. All around me i see profit driven, self interest, self surviving at work. Having being bough up to 'expect abundance' from a positive thinking mother i struggle to be content when we can look all around us and see poverty. The more i think about what you guys at Factor e Farm are doing, the more seance it makes, the more it seems to be one of if not the only courses for us as a species to take if we truly want to prosper and survive for century's to come.

Looking for an online manager

I will be focusing on open source ecology research and development, and
I don't have time to manage the online sites so I won't be checking for
friend requests or anything on facebook, MySpace, or the other sites. If anyone
wants to take over this task please send a message to jeremymaso at
gmail dot com.

Thank you!

Open Source Global Village I Site End State Development

I brought an Garmin emap GPS to e Farm and Jeremy collected 471 waypoints from the land here at OSGV I today.

I'm traveling to Utah to visit my folks, go to an ex-girlfriends Masters graduation ceremony, and visit a childhood friend. When I arrive back in New Mexico, I'll download those 471 waypoints so that everyone can see the topology, where the buildings and streams are.

 This will be about mid-May.

First Aid Kit

Several people have expressed an interest in donating to help buy a good first aid kit for Factor e Farm to upgrade our existing first aid supplies. Here are some of the specifications we think a kit should have, what do you think?

-suture

-forceps (hemostat?)

-hemostatic compund?

-medical tape

-maybe also these things, but we could just get them at the store: ACE bandage for sprains, hydrogen peroxide, medical honey for a fast wound healing disinfectant wound dressing?, etc?

-any other first aid supplies we should pick up in addition?

why I'm not a True Fan anymore

After Marcin told Molly and I to come back with another proposal about
cooking and sanitation facilities, I decided to do my due diligence
about the Factor E site. I needed to think clearly not about my dreams
of living at Factor e, but about the reality of the place.  I'd been
thinking about a total life change, after all. Shouldn't I give it a
thorough analysis?

So I reviewed my notes, pictures, and drawings of the site.  I
thought about what it was like working with Marcin at a distance, how I
was living and working on site, the opinions of others who have been to

Jeremy's Daily Plan

Today is looking to be nice outside and we have too many eggs so I would like to start testing the hexahatch and get some outside stuff done, like more raspberries propagated, raised bed built, the shower finished. The weather looks like it's getting warmer with some rain on Thursday, Saturday, and Sunday.

Progress Update

It is April already, and the present mode is to get the CEB parts sourced and the CEB prototype 2 built. This includes:

  • Microtrac - engine cube and body. MicroTrac is not only a power source for the CEB, but also a utility tractor for: tree augering, tilling, hammer milling, carrying loads for mulching trees, mowing. As such, it's a high priority for doing effective agricultural work.
  • Soil pulverizer
  • CEB 2

Thus, the general plan is:

Free Power from Water idea ive had. Need some help!

Some time
ago i had a thought on how to make power from water. I saw a pelton
wheel that if i remember correct needed 150 psi of water (5 gal per
min)to make it turn 3500 rpm on a alternator. Now at that time i did
some research and found a water pump that would make 150 psi at 6gpm
that only used 60 amps to do so.
If your powering a 300 amp alternator wouldnt this enable free power?

Ok
and another angle i looked into. If i build a large tank of water say
10,000 gallons and at the very bottom had the proper nozzle to make 150

Liberator 2 CEB Design

Over the past few days, Marcin and I have been working on the design of The Liberator 2 - the second prototype of our high-performance CEB press. The design is now up for review. The main changes are an enlarged, stationary hopper structure, guide rails that use cam followers, and an anti-bridging auger in the mouth of the hopper.

Many visitors; many chickens in every pot; and many raspberries propagated

Yesterday we had several visitors to Factor e Farm. First there was Nick Raaum, who came the night before with Rynn (?) who's father lives around here. They came from Wisconsin, Nick came to move his stuff out of the hexayurt and Rynn to visit her father. We gave them a tour of the place and Nick came back the next morning to move out. Unfortunately he has urgent bills to pay so he can't stay at Factor e to develop the steam engine.

Some forum threads not working

Is something wrong with the drupal database? Sam was going to try looking into it, any progress? I tried removing the related projects content field but it didn't fix the other forum threads. Sam said it was some kind of PHP error but the PHP error reporting is off on the DreamHost server, and I don't know how to turn it on. Does Vinay need to make that happen or can we fix it another way? Any ideas anyone?

Starting up a european spinoff offline??

I just posted a new post on "Starting up a european spinoff" and suddently i cant get acces, iv tried clearing my cache with no effect.

any chance whatever the problem is, that it can be fixed? ^_^

Possible model database for the fablab

I have set up the website www.reprap-models.com which can be used for hosting of fabbing files.

Earlier today i noticed that the website had been attacked by a hacker so for the moment being there is no index.html file in there, i will upload a temporary "will be back asap" website later today while the coder checks out the website to se whats been changed and hopefully we will get the website back online very soon.

Starting up a european spinoff

I would be very interrested in starting somthing like factor e farm just in europe, we have two villages slightly like it already in my country, but non of them go as far as factor e farm, mostly its about dodging building costs by building your own house from natural things like straw clay and seashells (they'v managed to get some ok looking houses out of it, that have sofar withstood two storms breaking, they have however discovered that straw and seashells are not as effecient for insulation as they had first hoped, so their walls are fairly thick (or so iv read on their website)

Current Progress

We have made a working prototype, see the wiki and yutube videos for more info.

Right now we are looking into getting a turnkey system. http://yellowheat.com/catalog has a complete turnkey for $2500 or just the burner for $1500.

We are also looking for people to help open source a babington burner design.
